NIŠ – THE “GATE OF BALKANS” – CHARMING MELTING POT OF CULTURES

 

Visit the birthplace of Constantine the Great, the biggest Ottoman fortress in Balkans and the unique Skull tower

Departure from Belgrade at 7.30. Arrive in Niš at 10.00 and visit the Niš fortress, with old Turkish hamam and Bali Bey mosque. Continue with city centre walking tour, and see Monument to Liberators of Niš, Islam-aga’s mosque, the main Victory street, before finishing at traditional restaurant in Tinkers alley – the city’s Bohemian quarter. After the lunch you will have some free time, before we continue the panoramic sightseeing and visit the Skull tower, which hides an amazing story about the Serbian Revolution against Ottoman empire. Then we will visit the Red Cross concentration camp, one of only few form World War II which can be visited today in Serbia. We will finish the tour with visit to the Čegar hill, site of the famous Čegar battle between Serbs and the Turks, and a dinner at restaurant with the most beautiful view over the city of Niš. Comeback to Belgrade around 21.00.
